LEGACY LEADERSHIP TRAINING SESSION

Over the years, the world has experienced different styles of leadership. Some leaders have been transformative in their leadership while others have had no tangible positive impact. As the world grapples with many unprecedented challenges ranging from global health threats, food insecurity to climate change, the kind of leadership that is required is one that leaves a lasting LEGACY. World over, there is a growing demand for leadership with substance and material to pass to the coming generations.

In step with the demand for legacy leadership, Legacy Leadership Africa, together with other mentors from MENTEE GLOBAL ORGANIZATION, organized a mentorship session dubbed “Living Your Legacy as a Youth for Leadership and Wellness.” We collaborated to impart young people, mostly from Africa, with relevant skills and knowledge on a wide range of topics including Leadership, Personal Development (CV/Resume writing) and Mental Wellness.

The session began in earnest with meditation led by Alene Johnson from MENTEE GLOBAL Organization. The meditation session was warranted to help the mentees underscore the essence of calm, tap into the peace and balance that comes with meditation. It was also aimed at helping the mentees improve their emotional well-being and overall health.

Following Miss Alene Johnson was Mr. Ogweno Stephen, the CEO of Stowelink. In his part, Mr. Ogweno underscored the importance of living a life of legacy. He narrated the work they do at  Stowelink Inc and how they ensure they impact their primary target beneficiaries-their LEGACY.

Oduor Kevin, the Executive Director of LLA was keen to implore the mentees to choose the kind of life they want live. He advised them to be the leaders of their own life and that through the life they lead, they will inspire many people who will want to be like them. He also shared about “The Tenets of Legacy Leadership” which are 1) Intentional, 2) Inclusivity and 3) Impact.

Oduor also challenged the mentees to think about what their story will be and strive to always leave a mark, even clear footsteps for others to follow. In finishing, He referenced the words of Dolly Parton, the actress and singer:

“If your actions create a legacy that inspires others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, then, you are an excellent leader.”

The last segment of this mentorship session was on personal development led my Nele from MENTEE Global Organization. She talked extensively about the need for mentees to seek personal development as that would help them advance towards achieving their goals in life-including their legacies and life’s blueprint.

Remember: If you have knowledge, let others light their candles from it!
